Characters Matter: Lessons from Exceptional Leaders in Popular Culture
A Workshop and Lunch
They say a picture is worth a thousand words… The next time you go to train a new leader, what if instead of reviewing exceptional leadership traits, you showed them examples instead? In a new manager’s experience, they may have had a mixed bag of experiences with former supervisors, so reflecting on their past might lead to more of what they shouldn’t do, rather than what they should. In this interactive workshop, we’ll discuss leadership examples from characters in popular culture and movies and discuss how you can use these positive examples to prompt conversations around best practices in influencing others.
About the Speaker
A native Quad Citizen, Nathan Bates, or more often called Nate, has lived out the best of both sides of the river by growing up on the Iowa side, in Davenport, and raising his family on the Illinois side, in Moline. He and his wife, Natalie, try to keep up with their two children the best that they can.
Nate can frequently be found performing around the Quad Cities, most often on stage at Quad City Music Guild or as a part of the choir, the Quad City Singers. He often uses his performance and storytelling background while facilitating training sessions at Vibrant Credit Union, where he has worked since 2006. He joined the ATDMVC Board this year as the Director of Marketing. When not working or performing, he volunteers at GiGi’s Playhouse Quad Cities, or you’ll often catch him coaching his children’s sports teams, trying (sometimes poorly) to play sports himself, or relaxing and cheering on some of his favorite teams.
