Why Mentorship Matters - The Lead(h)er Story

In December of 2015, Melissa Pepper was on the tail end of a life-changing career pivot. Reflecting on how it all happened, she found that great mentors were at the center of her story. With gratitude and grit, she founded Lead(h)er, the mentorship organization that has matched over 500 women with mentors in five years. In this presentation, Melissa will share her founder story and the ways in which mentorship is essential for success for women in the workplace.

    Presenter Bio
Melissa Pepper, President - Total Solutions

Melissa is a versatile multi-industry leader who excels when building, changing, and growing teams and programs. She's known for her exceptional communication, contagious energy, and decisive action. She started her career as a civil servant, working to create grassroots change in how we talk about post-secondary education for first generation students. From there, she has worked at a large regional blood center, a law firm, and now a shared services company, where she serves as president. With top Strengths of Woo, Communication, and Activator, she spends the majority of her time writing and speaking to tell compelling stories and motivate others. How this translates to action and results comes in the form of engagement, and high net promoter score ratings. Total Solutions was also recognized in 2020 as a Better Business Bureau Torch Award Recipient.

Melissa also serves on numerous boards and committees, including Genesis Health Systems (Board Member), Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce Membership Committee (Chair), and IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union (Board Member). Melissa is the co-host of the new WVIK podcast, A Real Piece of Work, and regularly contributes to Forbes and other publications. Melissa graduated Summa Cum Laude from Augustana College and earned her MBA from the University of Iowa. She is a proud recipient of the Nation of Neighbors Award and was recently named the Young Community Leader of the Year by the Jaycees of the Quad Cities.

    Introducing Multipliers:
How the Best Leaders Ignite Everyone's Intelligence

What's holding your team back from better results?
Under pressure to deliver results in good times and bad, leaders face a variety of challenges.

    • We can't hire, but we need to grow.
    • We need everyone's best, but people are burned out.
    • We're okay today, but we're not ready to compete for tomorrow.
    • We have the best talent, but they're not engaged.

In these circumstances, leaders can't afford to waste talent. They need people to innovate, to solve problems, to deliver results - and to be excited and engaged as they do so.

    Objectives:
In her research, leadership expert Liz Wiseman made a crucial discovery: There's far more intelligence and energy inside organizations that we realize. Leaders are key to unlocking these capabilities. FranklinCovey has partnered with Liz Wiseman to develop a new solution that enables leaders to become Multipliers who:

    • Access and use the untapped capabilities on their teams.
    • Rekindle energy and enthusiasm as teams achieve stronger results.
    • Innovate by encouraging new and bold thinking.
    • Breakthrough to new levels of performance by amplifying people's intelligence. Multipliers deliver stronger results as people grow and teams excel.
